Day 3

Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 5:3–5

God was using Paul to guide the believers in Corinth on how to deal with the man who was committing sexual immorality. We read in 1 Corinthians 5:3–5, “For I, on my part, though absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged him who has so committed this, as though I were present. 4 In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are assembled, and I with you in spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus, 5 I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.” God had Paul tell the church in Corinth that though he was not there with them in person, he was definitely there with them in spirit. Also, Paul told them that he had already passed judgment on the man committing sexual immorality. Then, God had Paul tell them what they must do. God guided Paul to instruct them that in the name of our Lord Jesus, the next time they were assembled as a church and by the power of our Lord Jesus, they were to hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of his fleshly nature so that his spirit might be saved in the day of our Lord Jesus. God was not messing around with this man living in blatant sin. God, in His loving discipline (Hebrews 12:5–11), will often use His children who are in right fellowship with Him to bring His discipline upon unrepentant believers.

Challenge & Application

Why should we never allow another Christian to willingly live in sin? What did God guide the believers to do with the unrepentant man in their church, and why?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Jesus came to earth as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all mankind. Therefore, when any believer willingly sins, it breaks God’s heart since sin is outright rebellion against our Lord. There was the sin of immorality that was lingering among the believers in Corinth. God had Paul write this in 1 Corinthians 5:1: “It is actually reported...

Day 4

God wanted the believers in Corinth to understand the effect this sin would have, not only on the unrepentant man, but also on the church. God had Paul write this to the Christians in Corinth in 1 Corinthians 5:6: “Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough?” God had Paul point out to them ...

Day 5

God guided Paul to tell the Christians in Corinth what they must do, as we read this in 1 Corinthians 5:7: “Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed.” God had Paul tell them that they had to get rid of the old “yeast,” which meant they must rem...

Day 6

When we willingly confess our sins and repent (turn back to God to be in right fellowship with Him), then there is reason to rejoice and celebrate. God wanted the believers in Corinth to know how to appropriately celebrate as well, so He had Paul write this in 1 Corinthians 5:8: “Therefore let us celebrate the feast, not with old leaven, nor ...

Day 7

God had Paul explain that as a body of believers, they needed to continue to reach lost people, and as they did, they must associate with lost people to be able to reach lost people with the Gospel of Christ. But in contrast, they should not associate with Christians who willingly live a sinful lifestyle because those Christians are a hindran...
