Day 2

Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 5:2

The believers in Corinth had not dealt with the sexual immorality within their church. God guided Paul to write this to the believers in Corinth in 1 Corinthians 5:2: “You have become arrogant and have not mourned instead, so that the one who had done this deed would be removed from your midst.” God had Paul rebuke the believers in Corinth for becoming proud and arrogant! God also had Paul tell them that instead of feeling proud, they should have been ashamed for allowing such a sin to go on. They should have been broken because they had not dealt with the Christian who was blatantly sinning. God even had Paul tell the Corinthian Christians that the man who was willingly committing sexual immorality with his stepmother should have already been removed from their church if he was unwilling to repent of his sin. God tells us in Galatians 6:1–2, “Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.” So, if another believer is caught in a sin, those who are godly should gently and humbly help lead them to repent and get back into right fellowship with Christ, but the godly must walk guarded so they do not fall into the same temptation or any other temptation. The problem was that the believers in Corinth had not done this at all.

Challenge & Application

What happens when we, as Christians, do not follow God’s commands each day? Why is this not healthy? What happens when we do not love each other enough to help hold each other accountable?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Jesus came to earth as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all mankind. Therefore, when any believer willingly sins, it breaks God’s heart since sin is outright rebellion against our Lord. There was the sin of immorality that was lingering among the believers in Corinth. God had Paul write this in 1 Corinthians 5:1: “It is actually reported...

We read in 1 Corinthians 5:3–5, “For I, on my part, though absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged him who has so committed this, as though I were present. 4 In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are assem...

Day 4

God wanted the believers in Corinth to understand the effect this sin would have, not only on the unrepentant man, but also on the church. God had Paul write this to the Christians in Corinth in 1 Corinthians 5:6: “Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough?” God had Paul point out to them ...

Day 5

God guided Paul to tell the Christians in Corinth what they must do, as we read this in 1 Corinthians 5:7: “Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed.” God had Paul tell them that they had to get rid of the old “yeast,” which meant they must rem...

Day 6

When we willingly confess our sins and repent (turn back to God to be in right fellowship with Him), then there is reason to rejoice and celebrate. God wanted the believers in Corinth to know how to appropriately celebrate as well, so He had Paul write this in 1 Corinthians 5:8: “Therefore let us celebrate the feast, not with old leaven, nor ...

Day 7

God had Paul explain that as a body of believers, they needed to continue to reach lost people, and as they did, they must associate with lost people to be able to reach lost people with the Gospel of Christ. But in contrast, they should not associate with Christians who willingly live a sinful lifestyle because those Christians are a hindran...
