Day 5

Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 15:20–23

God was not going to leave the believers in Corinth feeling hopeless, for their hope and ours is definitely found through our relationship with our risen Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. We read in 1 Corinthians 15:20–23, “But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. 21 For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. 23 But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming.” God had Paul bring the believers in Corinth back to reality. God told them, through Paul, that Christ definitely was raised from the dead and that Christ was and is “the first fruits of those who are asleep.” Christ being the “first fruits” means that Christ was “the first to be resurrected with an incorruptible, immortal body, foreshadowing the resurrection” (Amplified Bible), and because Christ was raised with a glorified body, that meant that everyone who had died in Christ was still looking forward to their glorified bodily resurrection (Philippians 3:20–21, Colossians 3:4, 1 Corinthians 15:43, 1 Corinthians 15:49). When we die, we leave our corruptible body behind and our soul (our mind, will, and emotions) and spirit are immediately in heaven with our Lord. We don’t know what we’ll look like, but we know we’re alive with Him and that our body will one day be raised incorruptible, glorified through Christ.

Challenge & Application

Since Christ did defeat sin and death for all who surrender to Him, how are you living for Him each day? What are you looking forward to when you finally get to be in the presence of our Lord for eternity?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God used Paul to continue to answer the questions that the Christians in Corinth had asked Paul. The topic God had Paul focus on was the resurrection. We read in 1 Corinthians 15:12, “Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?” The Christians in Corint...

Day 2

Since the Christians in Corinth doubted a bodily resurrection for Christians, God had Paul write the following in 1 Corinthians 15:13–14: “But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; 14 and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain.” God had Paul lay out for the Christ...

Day 3

God had Paul continue to lay out the consequences of believing that there would be no glorified bodily resurrection for Christians. We read in 1 Corinthians 15:15–17, “Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 F...

Day 4

One final consequence that God had Paul lay out for the believers in Corinth is recorded in 1 Corinthians 15:18–19, “Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.” Think about the stark reality of reading these words for the first time. If ...

God had Paul explain not only Christ’s resurrection and the glorified bodily resurrections of all the saints but also revealed what will happen after the glorified bodily resurrections. Day 7

God had Paul deal with a somewhat mysterious subject, for we read the following in 1 Corinthians 15:29–34, “Otherwise, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why then are they baptized for them? 30 Why are we also in danger every hour? 31 I affirm, brethren, by the boasting in you which I have in ...
