Day 5

Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 15:7–8

God had Paul list a few more eyewitnesses, as we read in 1 Corinthians 15:7–8, “then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also.” We know that James was Jesus’ brother. James was regarded as a prominent leader in the church, as God led Luke to record in Acts 15:13–21. We must also remember that according to the Gospels, Jesus’ brothers were hostile toward Him and His mission, for this is recorded in John 7:3–5. Yet in Acts 1:14, we read this, “These all with one mind were continually devoting themselves to prayer, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.” So, Jesus’ brothers were among the followers of Jesus. James did not surrender to Christ as Lord until after Christ’s resurrection. No doubt that he and his brothers struggled with understanding that their earthly brother was their heavenly Lord. God made sure to have Paul mention James because He knew the believers in Corinth would have been familiar with James. Then, God allowed Paul to mention himself, for Paul had his encounter with Jesus as recorded in Acts 9. The believers in Corinth were aware of Paul’s past, and for him to mention that he had been blessed to see the risen Christ would have meant a great deal to the Christians in Corinth. God loves us so much and has done all of this so that anyone can come to know Christ as Lord.

Day 1

The Christians in Corinth likely faced pushback from people regarding the authenticity of the resurrection of Christ our Lord, for God led Paul to write about this in 1 Corinthians 15. God had Paul begin by stating that it all begins with the Gospel. We read in 1 Corinthians 15:1–2, “Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preac...

Day 2

As God led Paul to write, He led Paul to share the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ in 1 Corinthians 15. We read in 1 Corinthians 15:3, “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures.” God had Paul remind them that Paul had delivered to them the most important mess...

Day 3

Today, we read in 1 Corinthians 15:4, “and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.” God had Paul tell the Christians in Corinth what He had done in and through Christ our Lord. A great place to understand how Paul shared is found in Acts 13. We read in Acts 13:32–39, “And we preach to you the g...

Day 6

God called Paul to be one of His apostles. We read in 1 Corinthians 15:9, “For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.” Paul never considered himself worthy to be an apostle due to his persecution of the church before his conversion. Most Christians do not consider themselve...

Day 7

God always provides His good news throughout His Word. We read in 1 Corinthians 15:10–11, “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me. 11 Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.” It is only by God...
