Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 11:1
God used Paul to challenge all Christians at the end of 1 Corinthians 10 to be sure that, as His children, in everything we do, we do it in a manner that glorifies Him as our Heavenly Father. Then, God had Paul write this in 1 Corinthians 11:1, “Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.” At first glance, this might seem like an arrogant statement, but it definitely is not. As followers of Christ, we need to be in such right fellowship with our Lord Jesus Christ that we can say with confidence to others that if they will follow our example of how to walk with God daily, then they will grow in their personal fellowship with Christ as well. As God’s children, our lives are to imitate the life of our Lord Jesus Christ. We know that Jesus said on several occasions, such as in John 5:30, “I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.” and again, in John 6:38, Jesus said, “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.” Jesus gave us the perfect example that our lives are to be lived to do God the Father’s will. As we live for our Lord, we can lead others to follow our example as we fulfill God the Father’s will each day through our lives.
Challenge & Application
Who are the examples you have had to follow as you have grown in your walk with Christ and what stood out to you about them?
How have you been an example for others to follow, enabling younger Christians to grow in their walk with Christ?
