Day 6

Scripture to Read: Luke 1:46-49

As we read Luke 1:46-49, Mary begins by praising our Lord. Praise is what our Lord deserves, for He alone is God, Master, King, Lord. Praise is what every servant of our Lord should be doing daily. We praise God when we fully understand how awesome He is and also know all that He has done for us. Mary recognized as we read in verse 48 that she was a bondslave (the word bondslave means “one who is submissive to, and entirely at the disposal of, his master”) of her Lord. She knew she had nothing to offer God except her willingness to obey and trust Him. We also have nothing to offer God except to do the same, that we willingly obey and trust Him because He is our Lord and Master. Mary also rejoiced in God as her Savior. Rejoicing, just like praising, is an act of the will. We must choose to rejoice in our Lord because we know this world offers us nothing to rejoice in. We might find some momentary pleasure in this world, but nothing in this world is worthy of praise nor really rejoicing over. God is the only one worthy of our praise, and He is who we rejoice in, because of His rich mercy, grace, love, kindness, forgiveness, etc.… Then Mary speaks of all generations counting her blessed. She was blessed, for she carried our Lord and Savior. But we also are blessed because now our Lord and Savior lives in us. He truly has done great things for us all.

Day 1

Gabriel, one of God’s archangels, has a message from God to deliver to Mary. This message occurred in the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy. Elizabeth was pregnant with John the Baptist. Gabriel was sent to a little city in Galilee called Nazareth. Nazareth was pretty unremarkable and is not even spoken of in the Old Testament. But Jesus w...

Day 2

Can you imagine an angel showing up at your place and saying, “Greetings, favored one!”? It’s no wonder Mary was perplexed (troubled). She kept wondering why she would be receiving such a greeting. Being called “favored one” should have calmed any fear Mary may have had, but we read in the next verse that Gabriel says, “Do not be afraid,” so ...

Day 3

Mary asks a great question to Gabriel. She asks how she is going to have a child when she’s still a virgin. This is a legitimate question since there had never been, nor will there ever be again, a pregnancy happen in a virgin. This must-have blown Mary’s mind, even to consider that she could get pregnant as a virgin. God uses Gabriel to expl...

Day 4

After hearing from Gabriel, Mary went to see her relative, Elizabeth. This would have been around an 80-100 mile trip. Mary had heard that God had done something miraculous for Elizabeth. Mary may have been thinking that Elizabeth would be the only one who would believe and understand her story. When Mary arrives, she greets Elizabeth, and wh...

Day 5

Elizabeth declares with a loud voice, “Blessed are you among women.” Indeed Mary was blessed, for she had chosen to believe God’s Word (Luke 1:44) from the archangel Gabriel. We, too, were “blessed” abundantly when we decided to believe God’s Truth of who Christ is, and we surrendered completely to Him. We were “blessed” to receive everything...

Day 7

As Mary continues in her praise and honor of our Lord, she recognizes God’s incredible mercy being offered to generation after generation. But, the only ones who get to experience the fullness of God’s mercy are those who fear Him. Why? Because only a surrendered life can receive the mercy of God. It’s not that God is not offering His mercy t...
