Scripture to Read: Romans 8:1
We have an exciting week ahead as God reminds us of our great salvation through Christ our Lord. It’s easy for us, as Christians, to become numb to who God is, how powerful His Word is, and to who we are in Him through Christ. The numbness starts as we slowly get out of daily fellowship with God and not allow His Word to fill our minds and hearts. We also start making excuses for not being in corporate worship, not being deeply involved in a community group, not getting into His Word, and not sharing Him with others. We literally numb ourselves to His Holy Spirit in us (Ephesians 4:30, 1 Thessalonians 5:19). Then, after the numbness sets in, the enemy (Ephesians 6:12) begins to beat us down, seeking to convince us we’re nothing but a lowlife. However, God has awesome news for us. As we ended last week’s devotions, God had Paul share this in Romans 7:24–25, Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin. Though we feel “wretched” because of the ugliness of our flesh, we are not because of Christ in us. God does not want us to miss His wonder, glory, and majesty at work in us as His children, and that’s what we’ll begin to see this week.
Challenge & Application
What is the cause of numbness to God and His Word and how do we protect against it?
How are you thriving in your walk with our Lord, and what changes have you seen in yourself because of His work within you?
Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
