Scripture to Read: Romans 7:24
God has spoken very clearly so far this week about the battlefield we, as Christians, walk into each day. We know there is a battle between the Holy Spirit who dwells in us and the “flesh,” the outer shell, which is our residence here on earth. God had Paul write in Romans 7:24, Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death? No doubt, every Christian has felt this same struggle, desiring to honor our Lord each day while feeling the strong pull of our “flesh” to live for our selfish desires. In those times of greatest struggle, we most definitely feel wretched, worthless, purposeless, and extremely far away from God. When those feelings arise, we must crucify those feelings and walk in the fullness of God’s Truth. As a word of encouragement, let’s examine just a few Scriptures to see how God describes us as His children. God says this in 1 Peter 2:9, But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. God also says this in Titus 2:14, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds. These two verses speak volumes of who we are to God the Father through Christ our Lord. Though we “feel” wretched, we are NOT! See yourself as God does!
Challenge & Application
How did God speak to you today, and what word of encouragement did you take away from His Truth?
How will you encourage others who are “feeling” wretched so that they see themselves through God’s Truth and not their feelings?
