Day 1

Scripture to Read: Romans 7:15–16

In Romans 7 this week, God will be showing us the battle that wages within every soul. For every Christian on the face of the earth, the battle is between our flesh and the Holy Spirit who lives in us (Galatians 5:16–17). For those still separated from Christ and lost in their sin, the god of this world is battling to keep the lost blinded from the truth (2 Corinthians 4:3–4). Of course, God, through His Holy Spirit, is also continually convicting every lost soul concerning their sin and their need for His righteousness through Christ (John 16:8–11). God had Paul write, in Romans 7:15–16, For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate. 16 But if I do the very thing I do not want to do, I agree with the Law, confessing that the Law is good. We immediately recognize the battle that wages in Paul’s soul. Some argue that Paul is describing what he was like without Christ, while others say that Paul is describing the battle between his flesh and the Holy Spirit in him. Either way, the battle is very real. One of the points that we do not need to miss is that when we choose to sin, we agree with God’s Law, for God’s Law reveals our sin, showing that God’s Law is perfect and good. As Christians, we can overcome, and we’ll talk more about overcoming this week.

Day 2

Our sinful nature, our “flesh,” will never hunger for the things of God but will always long for the things of this world. What does this world have to offer our sinful nature? God tells us in 1 John 2:16, For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but i...

Day 3

As we continue our walk through Romans 7:15–25 this week, God had Paul continue to share the struggle with his “flesh.” Today, we read in Romans 7:19–20, For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. 20 But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwel...

Day 4

There is this lingering in our hearts each day between choosing what is right and choosing what is wrong. As followers of Christ, we know we want to honor our Lord in all we do, but there are times that we don’t, as God continues to use Paul to share the struggle in Romans 7:21, I find then the principle that evil is present in me, the one wh...

Day 5

It may seem like this talk about the battlefield will never conclude, but hang in there because God is faithful through it all. Today, we read in Romans 7:22–23, For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man, 23 but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of ...

Day 6

God has spoken very clearly so far this week about the battlefield we, as Christians, walk into each day. We know there is a battle between the Holy Spirit who dwells in us and the “flesh,” the outer shell, which is our residence here on earth. God had Paul write in Romans 7:24, Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of th...

Day 7

When examining a set of Scriptures over a solid week, knowing that God reveals incredibly Good News within those verses but that the Good News is at the end, it’s hard to wait to share that Good News. But today is the day that we have God’s Good News fully revealed in Romans 7:25; Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on th...
