Day 2

Scripture to Read: Romans 6:16

God has made it abundantly clear that we are not held under the bondage of the law because we could never fulfill the law of God (James 2:10). God gave the law so that all people can see how sinful we are and recognize our need for our Savior. So, today we focus on Romans 6:16, “Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?” As God led Paul to continue to write His Word, we read a great question everyone must understand fully. People wonder if we’ve been given free will to be able to choose God and follow Him or choose to follow the way of disobedience, which is sin. God gives us a clear answer through the question He asks in Romans 6:16. God tells us that we choose to either present ourselves as slaves of sin, which always results in death, or we offer ourselves as slaves of obedience, which results in bearing God’s righteousness. So, everyone has a choice on whom they offer themselves up to obey. Even as Christians, we choose to walk in obedience to our Lord each day, or we can revert to walking in our fleshly desires. To be able to walk in obedience to our Lord, we must stay in constant fellowship with our Lord and His Word. We will walk into sin when we choose anything as a priority over time with God. So, choose wisely!

Challenge & Application

What did God teach you today about “free will” and what that means for you each day? How can you help others know that they have a choice and that the only right choice is Christ as Lord of their lives?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God lovingly challenges us through His Word and this week will be no different. As we ended last week, God told us in Romans 6:14, “For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.” We are to have no master in our lives other than our Lord Jesus Christ. If sin takes control of us, it’s because we’ve allowed it ...

Day 4

Today, we’re going to park ourselves in front of Romans 6:19, “I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification.” In Romans 6:...

Day 5

Today, God opens our eyes to the reality we lived in apart from Christ. But let’s be sure and understand that what we learn today is still a reality for every person on this earth that is still separated from Christ. Through Paul, God tells us in Romans 6:20–21, “For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21 Th...

Day 6

There is a whole lot of “good news” packed into Romans 6:22 today. God’s Word says, “But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life.” Starting with our freedom from sin ought to set our souls on fire for God and His Word. We know sin always results in...

Day 7

Anytime we have an opportunity to share the “good news” about our Lord Jesus Christ with people, it’s almost guaranteed that we’ll use Romans 6:23 in our presentation. God’s Word says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” We know the result of sin is death, and though God has said...
