Scripture to Read: Romans 1:5
After defining the gospel, God led Paul to share how the gospel changed his life. It was through our Lord Jesus Christ that Paul received grace and his apostleship. As Paul received the grace of God through our Lord Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus, because Paul saw the risen Christ, he also received his call as an apostle. Paul’s goal in apostleship was to bring about the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles for His name’s sake (Romans 1:5). So, Paul was on mission for God to lead people to faith in Jesus Christ, which would be evidenced through transformed lives walking in obedience to the gospel. Paul’s mission was the same mission Jesus has given every one of His disciples in Matthew 28:18–20. Christ has commanded us to make disciples of all nations, so when He returns, people from every tribe, tongue, and nation will gather to Him to offer Him worship (Revelation 5:9–10, 7:9–10). As disciples (followers) of Christ, we learn and teach all that Jesus commanded so that we all walk in obedience to His Word. We do not obey to be saved, but as evidence that we are saved. Through faith in Christ, we are saved by God’s grace for good works (Ephesians 2:8–10). That is why faith is evidenced through our obedience (James 2:20–26). Therefore, we must follow Paul’s example to share the gospel, to see people from all nations come to know Christ and grow in obedience to Him and His Word.
