Day 5

Scripture to Read: Revelation 2:20

We know that Jesus rebuked the church of Thyatira for allowing a false prophetess in the church. This is what the false prophetess was doing according to Revelation 2:20, “teaches and leads My bond-servants astray so that they commit acts of immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols.” So, the believers in Thyatira were being led into sin by this false prophetess. We must constantly remember that the “freedom” that Christ has given us, through the gospel, is not a license to pursue the pleasures of our flesh. God has called us instead to be continually renewed in our passions and desires to do what is righteous. God even gives us this warning in Galatians 5:13, For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. So, we do have “freedom” in this life, but our freedom, through Christ, is not to be taken lightly. We must also remember that even though we have been given this “freedom” through Christ, we are still bondservants of our Lord. God tells us in 1 Peter 2:16, Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God. If we choose to walk in sexual immorality or spiritual immorality, which the church in Thyatira was being led to do, we will face the consequences of our sin. Sin always results in death (James 1:13-16). Therefore, we must choose righteousness over sin every day (Romans 6:12-14).

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about willfully committing sexual or spiritual immorality/sin? 2. How are you guarding yourself from falling into the trap of using the freedom you have in Christ to commit sin?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

This week we focus on what our Lord Jesus Christ says to the church of Thyatira. Day 4

Jesus closes out Revelation 2:19 with a final word of affirmation by telling the church in Thyatira that they have demonstrated an increasing fruitfulness in their love, faith, service, and perseverance. So, the church had not just been faithful in the past, but they continued to grow in all four areas. Again, God desires us to grow in our lo...

Day 7

We saw some of the severe consequences that can come from sin in yesterday’s devotion. But, even with those severe consequences our Lord continued to offer this church an opportunity for repentance (to turn away from their sinful ways to avoid such consequences). Again, this is our Lord’s rich mercy that He wants everyone to be able to experi...
