Scripture to Read: Revelation 2:18
This week we focus on what our Lord Jesus Christ says to the church of Thyatira. Jesus introduced Himself to the pastor/angel of Thyatira by using a divine description of Himself in Revelation 2:18,“ And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write: The Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet are like burnished bronze, says this: First, Jesus calls Himself the “Son of God.” Jesus is called the “Son of God” more than 40 times in the Bible. Here are just a few of those references: Matthew 14:33; Mark 3:11; Mark 5:7; Luke 1:35; Luke 4:41; John 1:34; John 1:49; Acts 9:20. The title, “Son of God,” points out Christ’s divinity, which means He is God. Jesus then describes Himself with two characteristics in Revelation 2:18. These same two characteristics are seen in Revelation 1:14-15, …His eyes were like a flame of fire. 15 His feet were like burnished bronze, when it has been made to glow in a furnace… Most theologians believe that Christ's eyes emphasize that He looked with penetrating judgment. Christ’s feet, being like burnished bronze, emphasizes His purity because brass is pure and highly refined in the fire. The burnished bronze also emphasized His steadfastness because brass was the strongest known metal in the ancient world. Christ is our perfect Judge who is completely pure and immovable. We must heed His Word and walk in obedience to Him, knowing our foundation for living godly is only found in Him.
