Scripture to Read: Revelation 2:12
This week we examine the Words of our Lord Jesus Christ to the church in Pergamum. In speaking to the angel of the church of Pergamum, our Lord introduces Himself this way in Revelation 2:12,“ And to the angel of the church in Pergamum write: The One who has the sharp two-edged sword says this. In Revelation 1:16, John made this observation of Jesus, …out of His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword. Now, we know from Hebrews 4:12 that God’s Word is a two-edged sword, For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. We also know from John 1:1, John 1:14, and Revelation 19:13 that our Lord Jesus is the living Word: 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. 13 He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. Jesus used His Word to deal with the believers in Pergamum just like He speaks to us today through His Word. Getting into the Word of God daily is critical to our growth in Christ. It is hard to hear Him if we are not in His Word.
