Scripture to Read: Joshua 2:12–21
Rahab then asked the spies to spare her and all her family when they returned to take over Jericho. The spies spoke words of encouragement to Rahab and told her that if she kept silent about them, then they would be sure that she and her family would be spared from the destruction coming to Jericho. After they spoke, Rahab allowed the men to escape through her window, and she told them where to go so they would not be captured. Rahab put her faith to work in what she did for the spies. God reveals this to us in James 2:25, “In the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way?” Rahab’s faith in God was real, and she proved it by protecting the spies and ensuring they had safe passage back to the other side of the Jordan. Our faith in our Lord is what protects us from being deceived and swayed by our fleshly desires or by the lies of the spiritual forces of wickedness. God tells us in 1 John 5:4, “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” To overcome this world and all it tries to distract us with is through our faith in our Lord. We must put our faith into practice every day by walking in obedience to God and His Word. When we’re tempted to give in to our fleshly desires, we must cling to our Lord and His Word.
