Scripture to Read: Nehemiah 6:1-4
Remember, in last week’s devotions, how God worked in Nehemiah 5 and brought reconciliation to the people of Jerusalem? Since the battle within Jerusalem was reconciled, in Nehemiah 6, we read how the battle from the outside began again. We must always remember that we are never completely out of the battlefield. Even though we may have times of rest, spiritual warfare never stops this side of heaven. We have to put up our guard every day and be prepared for the battlefield. In Nehemiah 6:1-4, we find that Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab, and the rest of Nehemiah’s enemies were raising their ugly heads again. Nehemiah’s enemies had heard that the wall of Jerusalem had been completed, even though the doors had not been set yet. Nehemiah’s enemies’ goal was to bring harm to Nehemiah, so they sought to meet with Nehemiah. God made it known to Nehemiah that his enemies wanted to harm him, so Nehemiah sent messengers to let his enemies know that he was too busy to leave the work that he still had to accomplish. Nehemiah’s enemies sent messengers to Nehemiah four different times, seeking to get Nehemiah to meet with them. Our enemies (Ephesians 6:12) are relentless and will do everything they can to distract us from what God has called us to do. We must remain steadfast and immovable in our walk with our Lord to overcome the lies of our enemies each day. Pursuing Christ and His Word each day will keep us from the enemies’ distractions and lies.

2. How will you choose to overcome the battles you face each day and be victorious?
