Scripture to Read: Matthew 6:16
Another part of fasting is what God describes in Isaiah 58:8, “Then your light will break out like the dawn, and your recovery will speedily spring forth; And your righteousness will go before you; The glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.” As our lives belong to our Lord Jesus Christ, we must reflect on what our Lord said in Matthew 5:14–16, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; 15 nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” We are the light that God uses to shine in this dark world. When we fast, God uses our time with Him and His Word to fill us so we shine brightly for Him in this world. But when we allow our lives to be cluttered with the worries of this life, the busyness of schedules, and the fast-paced life that so many live, our light begins to dim because we allow ourselves to be robbed of our intimacy with our King. We must be filled with His Spirit so our light shines brightly and everyone around us sees the work of God in us and through us. People will see the righteousness of God transforming us, and our lives will bring glory to Him.
