Day 4

Scripture to Read: Luke 6:24–26

Jesus shifted from blessings to woes, as God had Luke record this in Luke 6:24–26, “But woe to you who are rich, for you are receiving your comfort in full. 25 Woe to you who are well-fed now, for you shall be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep. 26 Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for their fathers used to treat the false prophets in the same way.” As Jesus used the word “woe,” many think of it as a threatening word, but it was used as an expression of regret and compassion. Jesus was broken for people like that in His day and He is still broken for people like that living today. When people are rich, they have no idea of their spiritual poverty. People who have the riches of this world are often living with a sense of excitement and enjoying what they consider good times. But they are blinded (2 Corinthians 4:3–4) to their genuine need for Christ, His riches, and His eternal kingdom. People who are rich, well-fed, always partying, and are popular usually are not going to come to Jesus, for they see no need for Him in their earthly life. The people who are willing to surrender to Christ as Lord and Savior are the people who have their eyes opened to how spiritually poor, hungry, and comfortless they are. They recognize their need and know that only their Creator can meet it, and that is when they repent, confess, and surrender to Him.

Challenge & Application

Why was/is Jesus so broken for those who were/are rich, well-fed, laughing, and popular? How broken are you for those who have settled for the stuff of this world and are still lost in their sins?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 3

For every follower of Christ, the words Jesus shared next can be difficult. God had Luke record in Luke 6:22–23, “Blessed are you when men hate you, and ostracize you, and insult you, and scorn your name as evil, for the sake of the Son of Man. 23 Be glad in that day and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven. For in the sam...

But God had Luke record what Jesus said we must do, as we read Luke 6:27–28, “But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistrea...

Day 6

Jesus also spoke about accepting certain evils being done to us. We read in Luke 6:29–31, “Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your coat, do not withhold your shirt from him either. 30 Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back. 31 Treat others the ...

Jesus had more to teach, and so God had Luke record in Luke 6:32–36, “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33 If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. 34 If you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what cred...
