Day 2

Scripture to Read: Luke 6:21

Jesus continued to teach, and so we read in Luke 6:21, “Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.” Jesus described how blessed are those who passionately pursue Him. God had Matthew record this in Matthew 5:6, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” To hunger and thirst for our Lord, and of course also for His Word, we can know that our Lord will fill us and satisfy our spiritual hunger. What we must do as Christians is choose to fast from all electronics and other things that we use to fill our minds and hearts. Until Christians fast from some of the things of this world, our hunger for our Lord and His Word is going to be squelched. Jesus also spoke of the ones who weep as being blessed. Jesus was referring to genuine godly sorrow that produces repentance which leads people to salvation through Christ (2 Corinthians 7:10). When someone is finally broken over their sins, they weep and cry out to God for cleansing and healing. Once they’ve surrendered to Christ, they are filled with His Holy Spirit, and with that comes His joy. When we are in a right relationship with God the Father through Christ, we have reason to rejoice and laugh. As followers of Christ, we know who we are in Him and that He is our joy, hope, and the true source of meeting all our needs (2 Peter 1:3–4).

Challenge & Application

What does it mean to hunger for God and His Word, and how are you keeping your hunger alive and well? What are you choosing to fast from to increase your hunger for God and His Word?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

For every follower of Christ, the words Jesus shared next can be difficult. For even sinners do the same. 34 If you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what cred...
