Scripture to Read: Luke 15:9-10
Just as the shepherd fervently sought to find his lost sheep, the woman did all she could to find her lost silver coin. Jesus then tells us in Luke 15:9–10, “When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost!’ 10 In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Notice that the woman’s response, once finding the lost silver coin, is the same as the shepherd’s once he found his lost sheep. There was an announcement to all her friends and neighbors, and she invited them to rejoice with her. In the same way, there is incredible rejoicing in heaven when one sinner repents, surrenders to Christ, and follows Him wholeheartedly. In the Bible we find that angels are often pictured as heavenly witnesses surrounding the throne of God. The fact that Jesus mentions the angels being present reveals to us that when one lost sinner is saved, this incredible transformation becomes an event that all of heaven rejoices over. This life-changing moment is acknowledged and celebrated openly in the heavenly realm. When we as Christians hear of a lost person being saved, we also rejoice (or at least we should). But maybe we need to step it up some, much like we do when our favorite team wins a championship. We need to recognize the miracle that takes place and never lose sight of seeing someone cross over from death to life.
