Day 1

Scripture to Read: John 5:31–33

Since we are Christians, our testimony is a vital part of what we use to share with others how Christ has changed and is continually changing our lives. Our Lord Jesus Christ spoke of His testimony as well. Jesus said in John 5:31–32, “If I alone testify about Myself, My testimony is not true. 32 There is another who testifies of Me, and I know that the testimony which He gives about Me is true.” Jesus told the religious leaders that God the Father had testified of Him and that God the Father’s testimony is always true. John, who God used to write the Book of John, was also used by God to write the Book of 1 John. We read this about God the Father’s testimony in 1 John 5:9, If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for the testimony of God is this, that He has testified concerning His Son. God used the Apostle John to proclaim that God the Father testified of God the Son and that His testimony is much greater than man’s. Then Jesus told the religious leaders in John 5:33, “You have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.” Jesus reminded them that they had questioned John the Baptist about who he was, and John the Baptist told them that God had sent him to testify about Jesus being the Christ/Messiah! Jesus challenged the religious leaders, according to God’s Law in Deuteronomy 17:6 and Deuteronomy 19:15, that there must be at least two witnesses, and Jesus had them.

Challenge & Application

• The evidence that Jesus is the Christ/Messiah is overwhelming, but how would you answer those who question if Jesus is the Messiah? • Why is our personal testimony so important, and who do you have that would testify of Christ living in your life?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 2

Jesus continued to say in John 5:34, “But the testimony which I receive is not from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved.” Jesus told the religious leaders that the testimony given on His behalf was not merely from man, which meant His testimony had the highest validation! Jesus added that the reason He was even there was that...

Day 3

Jesus was making sure the Jews knew that God the Father was the One who sent Him and Who testified about Him. Jesus gave the Jews a loving rebuke as He told them in John 5:37–38, “And the Father who sent Me, He has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time nor seen His form. 38 You do not have His word abiding in you, for ...

Day 4

We must never forget that every person on the face of the earth living without Christ is void of His Word and their spirit is absent of life. That was the problem with the Jews that Jesus was addressing in John 5. Jesus told them in John 5:39–40, “You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that...

Day 5

God’s Word (the Scriptures) continually testify about our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus even said in Luke 24:25–27, “O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?” 27 Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He ...

Day 6

Jesus continued to share the truth with the Jews and let them know He was not there to seek their approval. Jesus told them in John 5:41, “I do not receive glory from men.” As Christians, we must continually guard against seeking man’s favor over God. When we fall prey to needing man’s approval, we will compromise our walk with Christ. God us...

Day 7

The Jews in Jesus’ day thought that being a descendant of Abraham automatically put them in right standing with God, no matter how they lived their lives. God had given His Law to the Israelites through Moses, and we can see the Gospel of our Lord throughout the first five Books of the Bible. So, that is why Jesus challenged the Jews by telli...
