Scripture to Read: John 17:4–5
Jesus then said to God the Father in John 17:4–5, “I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do. 5 Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.” Jesus brought glory to God the Father by walking in complete obedience to the Father’s perfect will. We bring glory to God the Father the same way, by walking in obedience to Him and His Word. God tells us in Ephesians 4:1 that we are to “walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called.” He also tells us in Colossians 1:10 that we are to “walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.” So, our lives glorify our Heavenly Father as we live for Him and all that He has called us to do. Jesus also asked the Father to glorify Him together with Himself, giving Jesus the same glory the Father already had and that Jesus had before He was sent to earth. Jesus never could have asked for the same glory that God the Father has if He were not God. God makes it clear that He shares His glory with no one in Isaiah 42:8, “I will not give My glory to another,” and Isaiah 48:11, “My glory I will not give to another.” Therefore, Jesus is God and the only One worthy of the same glory.
Challenge & Application
• How do we know that Jesus is worthy of the same glory as God the Father?
• How are we to walk as followers of Christ, knowing He lives in us and has saved us from our sins?
