Scripture to Read: John 12:28–30
Jesus was totally transparent about what He was going through. What is beautiful about what God had John the Apostle record is what we read in John 12:28, “Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came out of heaven: “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.” Jesus transitioned from sharing how troubled He was to immediately talking to God the Father. Jesus requested that God the Father’s name be glorified. God the Father immediately responded that His name had been glorified and would be again. This is the third time in Scripture that God the Father’s voice is heard. The first two times God the Father spoke from heaven were at Jesus’s baptism when Jesus was transfigured, which is when Moses and Elijah showed up. Then, we read in John 12:29–30, So the crowd of people who stood by and heard it were saying that it had thundered; others were saying, “An angel has spoken to Him.” 30 Jesus answered and said, “This voice has not come for My sake, but for your sakes. It’s hard to imagine what God the Father’s voice would sound like, but for some in the crowd, God’s voice sounded like thunder. For others in the crowd, God’s voice sounded like an angel had spoken. But Jesus told them that God had spoken to give them confidence because of what Jesus was about to face. God speaks to us every day through His Word. He uses His Word to build our trust in Him, encourage, rebuke, grow, challenge, feed us, and more.
