Day 4

Scripture to Read: John 1:9–10

Christ came to this world to set every captive free from our bondage to sin and its power. As we saw yesterday, God called John the Baptist to proclaim Christ’s arrival, knowing Christ came to fulfill the Father’s perfect will. We find this prophecy about our Lord Jesus Christ in Isaiah 61:1, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners.” So, did the world in Christ’s day respond any differently than the lost world of today? God led John to write in John 1:9–10, “There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.” Christ came to give His Light to everyone so that the darkness of sin would be obliterated in everyone’s lives. But God shows us through His Word that though the world was created through Christ, the world was clueless about Who Christ was. The lost world is still clueless today and refuses the free gift of eternal life offered through Christ our Lord. We know the darkness of sin blinds everyone who is still lost in their sin. Therefore, those walking in darkness are blind to God's Truth. We must live God’s Truth daily and share His Truth so that those still held captive by their sin might be set free and walk in the fullness of Christ.

Challenge & Application

• Why does a lost world, when offered the Truth of Christ’s love, life, and light, still refuse Him? • How different is your life due to Christ’s love, life, and light in you, and how are you sharing Him with those who need Him?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

John is one of the original 12 disciples of Christ. God led John to write the Book of John, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, and Revelation. John lovingly refers to himself in the Book of John as one of the disciples “whom Jesus loved” (John 13:23, John 19:26, John 20:2, John 21:7, John 21:20). So, John had a beautiful understanding of how much Christ...

Day 2

Knowing Christ is God is essential to our faith. With all of the religions in the world claiming to be “a way” to God or “a way” to heaven or “a way” to escape eternal punishment, we know that Christ is “The Way” and that there is no other way. As God the Holy Spirit led John to write, we read in John 1:4–5, “In Him was life, and the life was...

Day 3

God uses all of us, as Christians, to proclaim our Lord Jesus Christ to this lost world and each other as we walk with Him each day. God used John the Baptist to proclaim that Jesus is the Christ, the One prophesied about throughout the Old Testament. God had John write in John 1:6–8, “There came a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He...

Day 5

When Christ first came to this world, He came to His chosen people, the nation of Israel. The Israelites, especially the religious leaders, knew the prophecies in the Old Testament about their coming Messiah. There are around 360-plus prophecies about the coming Messiah in the Old Testament. So, when Christ came to this world, He came just as...

Day 6

God led John to come back to Christ as being fully God and fully man. We read in John 1:14–15, “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 John *testified about Him and cried out, saying, ‘This was He of whom I said,’ ‘He who comes after me ha...

Day 7

Christ came to give His life so that everyone made in His image could have life eternal through Him. Real life is not possible apart from Christ. Even when we consider the reason that we were created, we have no real purpose apart from Christ because everything this world offers us is fleeting/temporary/short-lived and only leaves us empty an...
