Day 1

Scripture to Read: John 1:1–3

John is one of the original 12 disciples of Christ. God led John to write the Book of John, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, and Revelation. John lovingly refers to himself in the Book of John as one of the disciples “whom Jesus loved” (John 13:23, John 19:26, John 20:2, John 21:7, John 21:20). So, John had a beautiful understanding of how much Christ loved him and all of the rest of the disciples/followers of Christ, which includes us today. God used John to write His fourth gospel of Christ a little differently than Matthew, Mark, and Luke. In the first three Gospels of Christ, we find that God had Matthew, Mark, and Luke all include a written record about Christ’s birth, baptism, temptation in the wilderness, encounters with demons, teaching in parables, agony in Gethsemane, and His ascension. But God led John in a different direction, for God had John focus on Christ being God. Since God led John to deal with Christ as God, we read in John 1:1–3, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.” The “Word” is Christ, and He has always existed since the beginning, co-eternally, with God the Father. As the Holy Spirit wrote through John, God leaves no doubt right from the start that Christ is God and that everything was created through Christ.

Challenge & Application

• What sticks out to you today about the Gospel of John and why? • Why is it important for us to understand that Christ is God and not Someone created by God?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 2

Knowing Christ is God is essential to our faith. With all of the religions in the world claiming to be “a way” to God or “a way” to heaven or “a way” to escape eternal punishment, we know that Christ is “The Way” and that there is no other way. As God the Holy Spirit led John to write, we read in John 1:4–5, “In Him was life, and the life was...

Day 3

God uses all of us, as Christians, to proclaim our Lord Jesus Christ to this lost world and each other as we walk with Him each day. God used John the Baptist to proclaim that Jesus is the Christ, the One prophesied about throughout the Old Testament. God had John write in John 1:6–8, “There came a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He...

Christ came to this world to set every captive free from our bondage to sin and its power. As we saw yesterday, God called John the Baptist to proclaim Christ’s arrival, knowing Christ came to fulfill the Father’s perfect will. We find this prophecy about our Lord Jesus Christ in Isaiah 61:1, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because th...

When Christ first came to this world, He came to His chosen people, the nation of Israel. The Israelites, especially the religious leaders, knew the prophecies in the Old Testament about their coming Messiah. There are around 360-plus prophecies about the coming Messiah in the Old Testament. So, when Christ came to this world, He came just as...

Day 6

God led John to come back to Christ as being fully God and fully man. We read in John 1:14–15, “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 John *testified about Him and cried out, saying, ‘This was He of whom I said,’ ‘He who comes after me ha...

Day 7

Christ came to give His life so that everyone made in His image could have life eternal through Him. Real life is not possible apart from Christ. Even when we consider the reason that we were created, we have no real purpose apart from Christ because everything this world offers us is fleeting/temporary/short-lived and only leaves us empty an...
