Scripture to Read: Hebrews 12:25-29
God begins Hebrews 12:25 today with a
warning. God warns us all that we MUST listen to Him. Of
course, why would we not listen to our Creator, King, and
Lord? God created us, He knows what is best for us, but
none-the-less there are millions today who choose NOT to
listen to our Mighty King. Everyone who chooses NOT to
listen to God will suffer consequences worse than what the
Israelites suffered when they refused to listen to Moses in
the wilderness. Moses was the mediator between the people
of Israel and God. For when God first spoke to the Israelites,
He literally shook the earth at Mount Sinai. And if you
read the Scriptures in Exodus 19; Exodus 20; Deuteronomy
4; Deuteronomy 5 in the devotion from yesterday, then you
know when God spoke that it sounded like thunder to the
Israelites. The Israelites were so afraid that they told Moses
that he needed to talk to God and then he needed to come
and tell them what God said. The Israelites were too afraid
to hear God themselves. God will shake the earth once
more, but this second time He will also shake the heavens.
The only things that will remain will be the things that
are placed on a firm foundation. The only foundation that
cannot be shaken is one built on Christ Jesus our Lord. As
believers, we are part of His unshakeable kingdom. Therefore,
we MUST show gratitude to Him by serving Him for
His glory, for He is a consuming fire.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you about listening to Him and being
sure to obey Him?
2. Who will you share with this week how God calls to
them and how they need to surrender to Him?
