Scripture to Read: Hebrews 12:1-2
God and His Word are so incredibly awesome.
We learn, grow, mature, are challenged, and are
transformed, all from Him and His Word. God begins, in
Hebrews 12:1, reminding us of all the saints He just laid
out before us in Hebrews 11. God tells us, since all of
these saints lived out their faith in Him even through the
tests, trials, and tribulations of this life, that we must do
the same. We must willingly lay aside and die to anything
that hinders us from pursuing our daily fellowship with
Christ and growing in His Word. Sin does nothing but
bring death to our lives. Even as Christians, we can get
caught up in the garbage of this world, and God wants us
to live free from sin’s bondage, destruction, and death.
So, we must choose to run this Christian race with the
endurance God gives us through His Holy Spirit in us. We
must also keep our eyes and hearts totally focused and
fixed on our Lord Jesus Christ. Christ is the One who is
our Peace, who gives us Life, who provides our life with
Purpose, who meets our every need and so much more.
Christ is both the Author of (the One who initiates) our
faith and the Perfecter of (the One who matures and
transforms) our faith. Christ is also the One who endured
for us the cross, despising its shame, because He stayed
focused on the joy of fulfilling the Father’s perfect will so
we could be set free from our sin through Him.
