Day 7

Scripture to Read: Genesis 9:7-29

In Genesis 9:7-17, God established His covenant with all humanity, for all time. God promised NEVER to flood the earth ever again. God’s covenant came with a sign, the rainbow. God would and never will use water to destroy all flesh as He did in the days of Noah. Then God has Moses (the writer of Genesis) share, in Genesis 9:18-20, a short list of descendants of Noah – Shem, Ham, and Japheth. We need to take to heart that the whole earth was re-populated from these men and their wives. We are all “one blood” with different tones of skin. If we are going to walk in God’s Truth, we must share His truth in love and live our lives knowing we ALL descend from one of these men listed here in Genesis 9. We also see Noah became a farmer! Much like Adam, Noah worked the ground in this new world and planted a vineyard. Now, we need to know that grapevines take about three years to grow to maturity, so about three years had passed between Genesis 9:20 and Genesis 9:21. Noah got drunk and ended up naked in his tent. Then Ham unashamedly saw his father’s nakedness and went and told his brothers about Noah’s shameful state, which dishonored (cursed) his dad (Exodus 21:17). In Genesis 9:24-29, God tells us what resulted from Ham’s sin. The point God gives us is that we have the freedom to choose, but we do not have the freedom of choosing the consequences of our choices.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about being “one blood” and about the choices we make each day? 2. How are you guarding against what this culture is trying to push when it contradicts God’s Word?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

This week we will be unpacking Genesis 8 and Genesis 9. As we start in Genesis 8, we see the words that God had Moses pen. God has Moses begin Genesis 8 with some very Good News. In Genesis 8:1, God’s Word says But God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the livestock that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind blow over the ear...

Day 2

God’s salvation has been and always will be incredibly miraculous. God has provided numerous salvation stories throughout the Old Testament. The ultimate salvation can only be fully known through a relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. Each salvation story in the Old Testament, though, points to Christ. As we have seen in the story of Noah...

Day 3

As the water receded and the earth dried out, God told Noah, in Genesis 8:16-17,“ Go out from the ark, you and your wife, and your sons and your sons' wives with you. 17 Bring out with you every living thing that is with you of all flesh—birds and animals and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth—that they may swarm on the earth, and ...

Day 4

As we unpack Genesis 8:13-22, we see how God had, in a way, hit the “reset” button. But, on this “reset” there was something different. The one thing that was NOT “reset” was the sin nature. Noah and all of his family had been born with a sin nature. So, the problem of sin was still the same, even after the flood. But God in His sovereignty h...

Day 5

Today we continue to examine the sacrifice that Noah made to our Lord. We find in Leviticus 1:3-4 that God's Law states that when a burnt offering was made to Him, the offering had to “be accepted before the LORD…to make atonement for him.” And then in Leviticus 1:9; 1:13; 1:17, God’s Word says that the priest must burn the offering on the al...

Day 6

In Genesis 8:21-22 our Lord promised to never again curse the ground because of man’s sinfulness. God’s promise did NOT nullify the curse He gave in Genesis 3. The context of the Lord’s declaration in Genesis 8:21-22 was that He would NEVER flood the earth again. We will see God’s promise continue in Genesis 9 later on, in verses 7-17. In Gen...
