Scripture to Read: Genesis 8:1-5
This week we will be unpacking Genesis 8 and Genesis 9. As we start in Genesis 8, we see the words that God had Moses pen. God has Moses begin Genesis 8 with some very Good News. In Genesis 8:1, God’s Word says But God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the livestock that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind blow over the earth, and the waters subsided. Noah and his family, along with all of the animals, had been on the ark for about a year. The Good News is that God did not forget Noah. We know God would not forget Noah, but, interestingly, God made it a point to mention that He remembered Noah. What our Lord did was faithfully move on behalf of Noah and his family to keep His Word and His covenants. God's salvation for Noah and his family, of course, started when they built the ark and then entered it. God's salvation process continued by sending a wind to blow over the earth to decrease the waters. But God also had to do something else for Noah and his family. We see what God did in Genesis 8:2-3, The fountains of the deep and the windows of the heavens were closed, the rain from the heavens was restrained, 3 and the waters receded from the earth continually. God shut down all of the flood gates He had opened so that the waters would recede. A great reminder that God’s creation is owned and run by Him alone.
