Scripture to Read: Genesis 5:6-24
Today, we continue to look at Enoch and what a godly example he was and still is to all believers today. We know that Enoch never tasted death because God tells us in Genesis 5:24 that “God took him.” There are only TWO people in Scripture who never tasted death. Enoch was the first and Elijah was the second. We know this because God tells us in 2 Kings 2:11-12, And as they (Elijah & Elisha) still went on and talked, behold, chariots of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. 12 And Elisha saw it… We’re not sure all of the reasons why God chose these two men not to die. We do know that Enoch pleased God. Also, it could be that God used their lives as a preview of the experience to come for all Christians who are still alive on this earth when our Lord Jesus Christ returns for His church. We know this as the rapture and God lays this out in 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 and 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17. Of course, there are many other references in God’s Word to the rapture. Christians living when Christ comes for His church will all be taken up to meet Him in the air. In other words, none of the Christians living on earth when Christ comes for His church will taste death. What a glorious day that will be. We need to be sure and live our lives as pleasing to our Lord.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you today about Christians who will not taste death?
2. How are you living for our Lord each day, knowing His return for His church could happen at any time?
