Scripture to Read: Genesis 5:6-24
We continue to look at Enoch and what an incredible example he was and still is to all who seek to walk with our Lord. God not only has Enoch mentioned here in Genesis 5, but then God makes sure the writer of Hebrews mentions Enoch in the “hall of faith” in Hebrews 11. What we have to see in Genesis 5:24 is that because Enoch walked with God, God chose to take Enoch to heaven, body, soul, and spirit, so that Enoch never tasted death. So, God reiterates this fact in Hebrews 11:5 when God has the writer of Hebrews say, “By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God.” Because of Enoch’s faith in God, because he totally trusted in God, completely relied on God, and clung to an intimate fellowship with God, God decided Enoch would never see death. We must also see that God even had the writer of Hebrews pen, of Enoch, that God commended Enoch because he pleased God. God wants our lives to please Him every day. And, we have what Enoch didn’t have; we have God Himself, through His Holy Spirit, living in us. Since God’s Spirit dwells in us we can please God daily. We have the power to walk in intimate fellowship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ opened the throne room of God the Father for us through His death, burial, and resurrection. So, let’s please Him daily.
