Scripture to Read: Genesis 3:11-13
The GOOD NEWS today is that God always gives us the opportunity to confess our sin and repent from our sin. God did the same with Adam and his wife. In Genesis 3:11, God asks Adam,“ Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” When we are given the opportunity to confess and repent, we need to do it immediately. Adam fell into the “blame game” before he confessed his sin. We see this in Genesis 3:12 when Adam said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.” So, Adam blamed God (the woman whom You gave to be with me). It is hard to believe Adam would point the finger at God, but we do stupid things when we sin. Then Adam blamed his wife (she gave me fruit of the tree). But finally, Adam confessed his sin (and I ate). Then the woman fell into the same trap, the “blame game,” before she confessed her sin. In Genesis 3:13, when God confronted the woman, she said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” Of course, Adam had already blamed God and his wife, so there was only one other to which blame could be passed. The woman blamed the serpent (the serpent deceived me). Then the woman, just like Adam, confessed her sin (and I ate). When God convicts us of sin, we must confess and repent without falling into the blame game.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you today about how to handle conviction of sin?
2. How are you daily confessing your sin to stay in right fellowship with our Lord God Almighty?
