Scripture to Read: Genesis 3:7-10
As we know, according to God’s Word, sin ALWAYS results in death (Romans 5:12, Romans 6:16, Romans 6:21, Romans 6:23, Romans 8:6, Galatians 6:8). As we read Genesis 3:7-10, we see that when Adam and his wife disobeyed God’s command, they both died immediately. Of course, this was not physical death. But let’s not miss the fact that God’s promise that they would die was a reference to the fact that they would bring physical death upon themselves. Of course, God knew they would bring death, not just upon themselves but also on the entire human race. More importantly, God’s promise was also about their spiritual death and the spiritual death of all mankind. We know they died spiritually because Adam and his wife immediately wanted to hide from each other and from God. Adam and his wife went from feeling ZERO shame, ZERO embarrassment, ZERO fear, to feeling the FULL attack of total SHAME, total EMBARRASSMENT, and total FEAR. Again, sin ALWAYS results in DEATH! Sin brings death to us being in right fellowship with each other and death to us being in right fellowship with God. Also, Adam and his wife did become like God in that they came to know good and evil. The problem was that Adam and his wife did not know the repercussions of having their eyes “opened” to both good and evil. God does not want us giving in to any scheme of the devil because our fellowship with Him gets broken until we repent and confess our sin.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you today about the repercussions of sin?
2. How are you hiding and treasuring God’s Word in your heart so that you do not sin against God?
Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
