Scripture to Read: Genesis 13:14-18
As we conclude Genesis 13, we see the promise of God displayed. Today, we'll see how Abram heard from the LORD about the promised land. In Genesis 13:15, the LORD spoke to Abram and told him to look all around because He had chosen this land for Abram and his descendants. God's promise is a reminder of the promise He had already spoken to Abram in Genesis 12:7. The lingering question from God's promise is this, "How can offspring be given land if there is no offspring?" because Abram still had no children. God had also promised Abram that he would become a great nation. What does God say now? In line with His character, He who is "the same yesterday and today and forever" (Hebrews 13:8), reiterates His promise in Genesis 13:16, "I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if one can count the dust of the earth, your offspring can also be counted." Abram believed the LORD's promise and followed where the LORD led him, building an altar to the LORD (Genesis 13:18). Our response to what we read here today is that we must believe in the promises of God too. God reveals how Abram's offspring would be given the promised land. We also read how the offspring of Abram will be as the dust of the earth. We see the reality of God's promise today. For everyone who trusts in Jesus by faith are the sons of Abraham (see Galatians 3:7-9). Every follower of Christ is a part of the fulfillment of God's promise.
