Scripture to Read: Genesis 10:1
This week we will hear from God in Genesis 10 and Genesis 11. A lot of what we’ll see are the names of the descendants of Shem, Ham, and Japheth. God has Moses begin in Genesis 10:1 with “These are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Sons were born to them after the flood.” So God begins to lay out for us the family lines of Noah’s three sons. Sometimes we question why these names are so important. We wonder why God put them all in His Word, especially when we can’t even pronounce many of the names. Now, some of the names of the descendants of Noah’s sons are familiar, such as Egypt, Canaan, and Sidon. But many of the names are just awkward and hard to say. What we do not want to miss is that many of these names, who later became nations, also became enemies of God. We need to understand that everyone on the face of the earth today originates from the line of Noah, who is from the line of Adam. Therefore, every person, no matter what race, nation, or language they are from, is ALL united under the same banner, being made in God’s likeness. We must never forget that being created in God’s image/likeness makes each individual on this earth incredibly important to God. For each person, God has a purpose. Each person’s greatest need starts with surrendering to Christ as Lord. Therefore, we must proclaim Him so ALL have the opportunity to at least respond.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you today about the importance of each individual created in His image?
2. How are you bearing God’s image each day and how are you sharing Him with others?
Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
