Day 5

Scripture to Read: Exodus 9:8–17

God continued bringing His plagues on Pharaoh and all of the Egyptians. As God spoke to Moses and Aaron, He told them, in Exodus 9:8–9, “Take for yourselves handfuls of soot from a kiln, and let Moses throw it toward the sky in the sight of Pharaoh. 9 It will become fine dust over all the land of Egypt, and will become boils breaking out with sores on man and beast through all the land of Egypt.” Again, take note that God did not command Moses and Aaron to talk to Pharaoh this time but to just be in sight of Pharaoh as they followed our Lord’s command. As soon as Moses took the soot and threw it into the air, every man and beast in all of Egypt broke out with boils all over their bodies. Even the magicians broke out with boils and could not even stand in the presence of Moses due to their pain. God continued to protect the Israelites from His plagues, as He was showing Pharaoh and all of Egypt that there was, and still is, no one like Him. This is important to understand since every Pharaoh saw themselves as a god. God revealed to Pharaoh that he was just a man like everyone else. The day after the plague of the boils, God had Moses speak to Pharaoh. God had Moses tell Pharaoh that he and the Egyptians were alive “to show you My power and in order to proclaim My name through all the earth” (Exodus 9:16). God’s perfect plan will always be to glorify Him!

Day 1

We focus on the next nine plagues God sent upon the land of Egypt this week. As a reminder, Pharaoh’s heart was hardened and calloused before God began to use Moses and Aaron in Pharaoh's life to free the nation of Israel. So, as God worked, the condition of Pharaoh’s heart continued to harden rather than soften. God told Moses, in Exodus 7:1...

Day 2

Today, God said to Moses, in Exodus 8:1–3, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord, “Let My people go, that they may serve Me. 2 But if you refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite your whole territory with frogs. 3 The Nile will swarm with frogs, which will come up and go into your house and into your bedroom and on your bed, a...

Day 3

Today, we read about the third and fourth plagues, the plagues of the gnats and flies. God did not send Moses to speak to Pharaoh before the gnats came. God said to Moses, in Exodus 8:16, “Say to Aaron, ‘Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the earth, that it may become gnats through all the land of Egypt.’” Also, as I mentioned in y...

Day 4

God continued His plagues on Egypt, and as He did, Pharaoh continued to harden his heart. We have discussed this already, but, as a reminder, God did harden Pharaoh’s heart, and Pharaoh hardened his own heart. It was not one or the other, but it was both. God warns us, “Do not harden your hearts” in Hebrews 3:8—so, we know it’s possible to ha...

Day 6

Remember from yesterday’s devotion that God had sent Moses to talk to Pharaoh. God had Moses proclaim that all the plagues had been happening to show Pharaoh and the Egyptians that no one was like God in all the earth. God also had Moses say to Pharaoh, in Exodus 9:17, “Still you exalt yourself against My people by not letting them go.” Phara...

Day 7

Today, God sent two more plagues on Pharaoh and the Egyptians—the first is the plague of locusts. In Exodus 10:7–9, it seems that Pharaoh’s servants almost persuade Pharaoh to let Israel go. But Pharaoh’s heart remained prideful, as stated in this question in Exodus 10:3, as God had Moses ask Pharaoh, “How long will you refuse to humble yours...
