Scripture to Read: Exodus 3:13–17
Yesterday, we saw that Moses was apprehensive about returning to Egypt and following God's call on his life. We continue today in Exodus 3:13 as Moses continued to show his reluctance by asking God what His name is in case the Israelites ask Moses what God’s name might be. Our Lord is so gracious and kind because He answers Moses in Exodus 3:14 and says, “I AM WHO I AM. Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” Then God took it even further and told Moses in Exodus 3:15, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. ’This is My name forever, and this is My memorial-name to all generations.” God did not want Moses to doubt that He is the One True God and that there is no other god except Him. “I AM” means “God is,” denoting that He has always existed and will always exist. Jesus called Himself the same name in John 8:58, and the religious leaders sought to stone Him to death because He claimed to be the great “I AM.” God reminded Moses again (in Exodus 3:16–17) what he would say to the elders of Israel and all that He has in store for them. It’s beautiful that God continually reminds us through His Word and His Spirit in us of everything we have through our relationship with Christ.
Challenge & Application
· Just like Moses, we need constant reminders that we serve the One True God; so, how are you listening to His daily reminders?
· How has God been using you to remind other believers Who He is and helping the lost to know Him as well?
