Scripture to Read: Exodus 3:5–6
We know Moses is in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ in the burning bush and as Moses got closer to the bush, our Lord stopped him. In Exodus 3:5, our Lord says, “Do not come near here; remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” Moses did not know how holy this place was, but he had entered into our Lord’s presence and out of respect for our King, he must remove his shoes. It is similar to entering someone's house—out of respect, we take our shoes off to keep their house clean from the dirt on our shoes. Then, our Lord introduces Himself to Moses and tells him, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” Our Lord told Moses He was the God of the covenant He had made with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Though Israel, having been in slavery in Egypt for many years, might have thought that God had forgotten His covenant, God had not changed and was actively working. Moses humbled himself by hiding his face out of fear and reverence for God. We remember what it was like when we first heard God’s voice within our hearts to surrender to Him as Lord. We felt sinful and unworthy, but we also knew He loved us and was willing to forgive us as we repented of our sins. Moses’ response was much the same, as He was in the presence of our King.
Challenge & Application
· As Christians, we ALWAYS have access to God because of what Christ did for us; so, how are you taking advantage of it each day?
· God is actively working in us daily, even when we don’t feel Him, so how do you stay alert to God’s work in and through you?
