Scripture to Read: John 20:1–10
Anytime we examine the Word of God, we must always look up the cross references and other Scriptures that tie into the Scriptures we’re studying. There are four resurrection accounts recorded in the four Gospels (Matthew 28:1–8, Mark 16:1–8, Luke 24:1–10 & John 20:1–10). Each one gives a little different picture of what happened when our Lord defeated death and rose from the dead. To help us better understand, I’ve included, at the end of this week's devotions, a possible harmony of the Gospels of the resurrection of Christ and His post-resurrection appearances in chronological order. Allow God to speak to you concerning His handiwork and how He used Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John to record all that happened on that resurrection morning and in the days ahead. This week, we examine what God had John record. Be sure and read what God had John write in John 20:1–10. Also, please read the other Gospels, for in them we see that there were other women with Mary, but Mary left the other women to go and report to Peter and John what she saw. At this point, the women believe someone has stolen the body of Jesus. Then, Peter and John ran to the tomb to see for themselves. Pay special attention to John 20:8, for God had John reveal to us that once he saw the empty tomb, that is when he believed what Jesus had been telling them, that He would be resurrected. We know our Lord defeated sin and death for us; therefore, we must proclaim this truth to all.
Challenge & Application
• Knowing our Lord conquered death for us, how are you choosing to live for Him each day?
• How are you doing in regularly sharing with others what Jesus did for them?
