Day 5

Scripture to Read: Colossians 3:22

God desires all families to be healthy and to thrive in this life. God desires to use those healthy families as examples to those who do not know Christ yet as their Lord and Savior. But God also desires all of His children to be salt and light in the workplace. God had Paul write in Colossians 3:22, “Slaves, in all things obey those who are your masters on earth, not with external service, as those who merely please men, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord.” Today, no one is called a slave but most are called employees. As followers of Christ, God expects us to be salt and light to our employers and to those with whom we work. God tells us that we must obey those we work for, and it’s not just doing a good job when they are watching, but it’s doing an excellent job when no one is watching. God does not want any of His children to fall into the trap of being “men-pleasers” (those who only work hard if someone is constantly watching over them). God reminds all employees that as employees, we do not actually work for a company or an earthly boss. Therefore, we must do our job with integrity and with a sincere heart because we want to honor and please our Lord, for He is who we will give an account to for how we did our work while here on earth. God had Paul write something similar in Ephesians 6:5–8, helping us understand that we work for Christ in all we do.

Challenge & Application

Why are we, as employees, to do our work for Christ and not for our employer or for a company? How are you doing your work (schoolwork, job responsibilities, etc.) for the Lord and not for men?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God had Paul write about cultivating healthy relationships. We read in Colossians 3:18, “Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.” For those who do not know Christ, this sounds like a demeaning Scripture, but God knows how he has created us as men and women. God had Paul lay out this same command to wives in Ephesians 5:...

Day 2

The marriage relationship will suffer if the husband is not a strong follower of Christ and His Word. God had Paul write this of the husband in Colossians 3:19, “Husbands, love your wives and do not be embittered against them.” When God commands husbands to love their wives and not to be “embittered against them,” God is reminding all husband...

Day 3

To have healthy families, we also need children who understand their role as outlined in God’s Word. God has Paul write in Colossians 3:20, “Children, be obedient to your parents in all things, for this is well-pleasing to the Lord.” God said that children are to obey their parents in all things. The question always arises, “What if the paren...

Day 4

The role of parents in their children’s lives is huge. The role of the father is so big, for he is to be the picture of Christ in the home while the mother is the picture of Christ’s body, His church. Promise Keepers and Baptist Press collected data showing that if a father does not go to church, even if his wife does, only one child in fifty...

Day 6

God leaves no room for compromise when it comes to taking care of the responsibilities we’ve been given, either in school, our homes, or our jobs. God had Paul write this in Colossians 3:23–25, “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inherit...

Day 7

God did not just use Paul to speak to servants, but God also had Paul directly speak to all employers. God had Paul write in Colossians 4:1, “Masters, grant to your slaves justice and fairness, knowing that you too have a Master in heaven.” God does not want anyone to be treated unjustly or unfairly by anyone. God even reminds all those in ch...
