Day 6

Scripture to Read: Acts 4:1–4

God loves to use us, as His children, to grow His Kingdom for His glory. God used Peter and John as they shared with the crowd what God led Moses and the prophets to say and write (2 Peter 1:19–21) about Christ. But when Christ and His resurrection are proclaimed, the opposition will come. Jesus promised us in John 15:18–25, and in many other portions of God’s Word, that this world would hate all of His followers. In Acts 4:1–4, we see the hate that the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees had for Peter and John. The reason the Sadducees hated Peter and John so much is that the Sadducees did NOT believe in angels, demons, heaven, or hell, and they denied a resurrection from the grave after death (Matthew 22:23). Well, Peter and John had proclaimed that Christ had been raised from the dead, so the Sadducees had to stop them. At this point, we must remember Ephesians 6:12, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” No matter how we are persecuted for proclaiming Christ, remember that it is the spiritual forces of darkness using people to carry out their dirty deeds. The good news is that though Peter and John were imprisoned, according to Acts 4:4, “many of those who had heard the message believed.”; now that’s worthy of going to prison.

Challenge & Application

· What would you be willing to go to prison for to serve your Lord well? · How are you seeing persecution occur in your life or other Christians’ lives because of an unwillingness to compromise?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Hopefully, it is still fresh on your mind how God showed us how He healed the lame man and how all the people were standing amazed at the miracle they had seen. We continue in Acts 3:11–12, as God uses Luke to describe how the healed man was clinging to Peter and John as people rushed in to see what had happened. God shows His handiwork in so...

Day 2

Since our devotions are laid out to follow God’s Word systematically, we get to build upon each devotion from the day’s previous devotions. In Acts 3:13–16, God uses Peter to share with the amazed crowd Who performed the miracle that made the lame man whole and able to walk. God had Peter share this: “The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the ...

Day 3

God loves to display His grace and mercy throughout His Word, and that is what we find today as God used Peter to share His Truth with the people who had gathered. God had Peter continue in Acts 3:17–18, “And now, brethren, I know that you acted in ignorance, just as your rulers did also. 18 But the things which God announced beforehand by th...

Day 4

Yesterday, we started unpacking the words God had Peter share with the crowd that had gathered due to the miracle of the lame man being healed. Though the people learned they acted in ignorance, they knew they had sinned. God used Peter to give them the answer for how to be set free from their sin. God had Peter share in Acts 3:19–21, “Theref...

Day 5

We know God’s Word is all about Him and how He offers everyone His love, grace, mercy, and forgiveness through Christ our Lord. God used Peter (in Acts 3:22–26) to share with the people how Moses and all of the prophets shared about the coming of Christ. God used Peter also to tell the people how He sent Christ to them first, the nation of Is...

Day 7

Yesterday, we saw how persecution comes to those who serve our Lord. We know persecution comes from the spiritual forces of wickedness, but it’s hard to see it that way when we can’t see into the spiritual realm. As we end today, we see in Acts 4:5–6 that Peter and John were brought before “their rulers and elders and scribes were gathered to...
