Scripture to Read: Acts 1:8
It is incredible how our Lord loves to give us good news and remind us of our mission, even when we are asking Him questions. Over the past two devotions, we saw how the apostles asked our Lord about the restoration of Israel and how our Lord lovingly told the apostles they did not need to know. But today, we get to see the rest of our Lord’s response. As Jesus tells the apostles that God the Father has everything planned out, He then tells them this, in Acts 1:8, “but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." Jesus’s answer gets the apostles immediately re-focused on the mission He has called them to fulfill. It’s not that Jesus did not want them to live with an expectation of His return, but what was most important was the apostles being filled with His Spirit so they could fulfill His call on their lives. Our Lord wants us to live with that same excitement each day, that He could return for His church. But as we look for His return, Acts 1:8 reminds us that we have been filled with His Holy Spirit, and we are to be Christ’s witnesses every day of our lives. God’s call to be witnesses of our Lord Jesus Christ is for every believer since all of us have been given His Holy Spirit. So let’s share Him today.
