Scripture to Read: James 1
As we close out this week, God has shown us much about being a “Jesus-centered church” and about us being “Jesus-centered.” To be sure we each stand on the foundation of Christ, we must be doers of His Word and not just hearers. God tells us in James 1:22–25, But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; 24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. 25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does. God reminds us not to fall into the trap of thinking that just listening to His Word is enough. We must then live His Word, for that is the only way to guarantee God’s blessing. Too often, people ask for God to bless them, but we see in James 1:25 that God blesses those who live according to His Word. Jesus said the same thing in John 13:17; If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them. Being “Jesus-centered” means we are “Bible-centered.” Living according to God’s Word is how we are nourished, grow, have spiritual victory each day, and glorify our King.
Challenge & Application
· What did God show you today about His Word and about how He uses His Word in your life?
· How are you “doing” God’s Word each day, and how have you experienced God’s blessing by living out His Word?
