Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 3
As we continue to examine what it means to be a Jesus-centered church, we must examine the foundation on which we stand. God tells us that there is only one foundation for our lives and the church. In 1 Corinthians 3:11, God’s Word says, For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. We know Christ is our foundation for our lives and to truly be Jesus-centered. The question we must ask ourselves each day is this, “Do I live like Christ is my foundation in every area of my life?” God has created us in His image; therefore, we must imitate Him (Ephesians 5:1–2). Imitating God means we stand firm in Him and surrender to Him spiritually, physically, emotionally, mentally, socially, financially, and sexually. These seven areas of our lives are blended as one. Therefore, each of these areas is planted firmly on Christ as our foundation for every decision we make in these seven areas. As we choose to be “Jesus-centered,” and as we choose to be a “Jesus-centered church, we choose to live our lives to lead others to love God and love people, just as we are also doing (1 Corinthians 11:1, 1 Corinthians 4:16, Philippians 3:17, Philippians 4:9). As followers of Christ, we are the ones setting the example for others so that together we grow and mature as the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:13–16). Let’s be sure and set the right example to follow.
