Scripture to Read: 2 Timothy 1:5-6
Today we read 2 Timothy 1:5-6 and we see the investment of three different people into Timothy’s life. We know that Paul had mentored Timothy and was continuing to mentor Timothy through the letters of 1 & 2 Timothy. We’re not exactly sure when Timothy came to know Christ as Lord, but we know that God used Timothy’s mom and grandmother (2 Timothy 1:5) to lead Timothy to Christ. All we know about Timothy’s dad is that he was a Greek (Acts 16:1-3), so we can only assume he was not a Christian since he is never mentioned as having a relationship with Christ. It’s awesome to know how God used Timothy’s mom and grandmother to lead Timothy to a relationship with Christ. We all have believers in our lives who invested in us and helped guide us to Christ. Without those believers, we really do not know where we would be today. God wants to use all of us in the lives of our lost family members, friends, and even people we do not know yet. God also wants us to be continually growing in our walk with Him. Through Paul, God tells Timothy, and us, to “kindle afresh” (fan the flame, fan into flames) the gracious gift He has given us. Through God's Holy Spirit, who sealed us for eternity when we surrendered to Christ as our Lord and Savior, God gave us gifts. We just have to choose to grow in these gifts and use them for His glory (Galatians 5:22-23; 2 Peter 1:3-9).
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you about the people who lead you to Christ and about how He wants to use you to do the same for others?
2. How are you using the gifts that God has given you, through His Holy Spirit in you, to grow in Him?
