Scripture to Read: 1 Thessalonians 3:1-2
There are times in our lives when the tests and trials that we are walking through become overwhelming. We get to the point where we need a break of some kind, a reprieve, so we can take a deep breath and keep moving forward. As we focus on 1 Thessalonians 3:1-2, we see that Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy had gotten to the point that they needed to know how the new believers in Thessalonica were doing. We know from our devotion on day one, from 1 Thessalonians 2:18, that Satan had been hindering Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy from going back to Thessalonica. But now we see here today, in 1 Thessalonians 3:1-2, that Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy had decided that even if Paul and Silvanus could not go back to Thessalonica that they would send Timothy. So, Paul and Silvanus chose to stay in Athens alone and they sent Timothy back to Thessalonica to encourage and help strengthen the believers there. When we’re struggling, we need to ask God to bring a Timothy or two into our lives to encourage us as we walk through the test or trial we are facing. God also uses Timothy’s to strengthen us, so we do not lose heart as we walk through our battles. On the other hand, when we are doing well, we need to allow God to use us to be a Timothy to others who are going through their tough times. Whether we need a Timothy or are being one, we must be faithful in serving our Lord.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you today about the tough times of this life and about being or needing a Timothy?
2. Who will you be a Timothy to this week?
