Scripture to Read: 1 Peter 2:4
In today's devotion, God makes it clear that those who have tasted that our Lord is good are those who have surrendered to Christ as Lord (Psalm 34:8; 1 Peter 2:3). But, for all of us who have tasted our Lord's goodness, we must realize that God's way is not man's way. As our Lord spoke to the first believers suffering for their faith, and as He says to us today, He reminds us that our Savior was "rejected by men." The most unmistakable evidence of Christ's rejection was His crucifixion. Yet, Jesus was the one who was "in the sight of God chosen and precious." The most apparent evidence of Jesus being chosen and precious to God the Father was His resurrection. Ungodly men, led by Satan, wanted Jesus dead, but God the Father had a purpose in Christ's death and defeated death through Christ. Jesus became the "living stone" through His resurrection. Holding on to this description of Jesus is important because it gives us the foundation of what we'll see in 1 Peter 2:4-10. This metaphor of a "living stone" calls for us to rest on Jesus and find our foundation in Him. As Christians, we'll walk through rejection by mankind (John 15:18-25). As we walk in obedience to our Lord, there is no doubt this world will hate us. We will be thought of as strange, and people will probably laugh at us. Others will talk about us behind our backs, but as we follow Christ in all we say and do, we build on a lasting foundation, for Jesus Christ is that foundation.
Challenge & Application
1. Knowing you have tasted the kindness of our Lord, how are you blessing others by sharing His kindness with them?
2. Knowing Christ is our eternal foundation, how have you seen your solid foundation keep you secure through the storms of life?
