Day 6

Scripture to Read: 1 Peter 2:21-23

God covers our purpose today according to all He’s shared with us so far in 1 Peter 2. As we know, God has hammered down how we are to submit to every authority in our lives. We submit because we honor our Lord Jesus Christ and walk in obedience to Him and His Word through submission. Even when submitting is uncomfortable because we serve under ungodly authorities, we still submit to them and all they require us to do. Submitting to our jobs, responsibilities, school work, chores, etc… brings God glory. Remember this: We do not submit when an authority asks us to do something in contradiction to God’s authority and His Word. God tells us in 1 Peter 2:21, For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps. It is always awesome when God clarifies what His perfect will is for our lives. What we see in 1 Peter 2:21 is God telling us that because Christ suffered for us and left us His perfect example as He submitted Himself to the Father’s perfect will, we must follow His example. While submitting and suffering, Christ did this, 1 Peter 2:22-23, who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth; 23 and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously. Christ’s example is what we follow and as we do, we’re transformed to look more like Him every day.

Challenge & Application

1. How are you submitting to the current authorities in your life? 2. How are you following Christ’s example and not speaking against those you submit to and entrusting yourself to Him?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God has been richly challenging us over the past few weeks as we have been on our journey through 1 Peter. This week is going to be no different and that’s a great thing for each of us. Day 2

God lovingly tells us today in 1 Peter 2:12, Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation. As God references the “Gentiles,” He is referring to anyone who does not have a relationship...

Day 3

We learned yesterday that our lives are to be a living example to the lost people in our lives. God continues to challenge us as He tells us in 1 Peter 2:13-15, Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, 14 or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the ...

Day 4

Yesterday we saw that God called us to submit to the authorities He’s placed over our lives. But even with authorities over us, God has given us freedom through our Lord Jesus Christ. The freedom God has poured out on us is choosing to love Him, obey Him, and serve Him (by serving those in our lives). We also have been set free from the power...

Day 7

As we wrap up 1 Peter 2, God lovingly reminds us of what Christ has done for us. 1 Peter 2:24-25 says, and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. 25 For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and G...
