Day 3

Scripture to Read: Matthew 1:20

God is most definitely sovereign (absolutely in charge and in control to carry out His perfect will) in all things. God knew the heart of Joseph, and so He sent an angel to speak to Joseph in a dream. We’re not sure if it was Gabriel again, or not, because God does not tell us here in His Word. We just know it was one of His angels. The angel tells Joseph not to be afraid to take Mary as his wife because the child in her womb is there by the power of the Holy Spirit. It’s hard for us to imagine God speaking to us through an angel, but that’s exactly what God did. Why doesn’t God do that anymore today? Because God has given us the full revelation of Himself, and His perfect will, through His Holy Spirit, who lives in us, and through His Holy Word. We don’t need an angel from God, because we have God Himself living in us working through us to carry out His perfect will (Philippians 2:13). We just have to choose to fellowship with God through reading, studying, and memorizing God’s Word. We also choose to fellowship with Him through prayer, as we practice the presence of God in our lives. God loves us so much that He gave us everything we need to grow in Him (2 Peter 1:3-4), but it is still our choice to fellowship with Him and to walk in obedience to Him.

Challenge & Application

Why do we think we need more than everything God has already given us to know Him see (2 Peter 1:3-4)? What must you do to not get distracted by the things of this world so you hear God clearly each day?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God used Matthew, just as God used Luke in the Gospel of Luke, to show us that Christ was fully human and fully God. Jesus was completely human because He was born of a woman, and Jesus was, and of course, is, 100% God, because the seed planted in Mary was from the Holy Spirit. The only way Jesus could be the perfect sacrifice for our sin was...

Day 2

In Matthew 1:19, we find that Joseph was a righteous man. We know, as believers in Christ, that righteousness is only found through a relationship with God. So, there’s no doubt that Joseph was a follower of God and desired to honor God through his life. If Joseph were just a religious man (someone trying their best, through their effort to e...

Day 4

Today, we really do not take into consideration the meaning behind a name. That’s not to say that parents do not labor over what they will name each child, because they do. But for most parents, it’s picking a name that sounds right, that fits their family, that does not sound hokey, or even that does not remind them of someone they do not li...

Day 5

There are over 400 prophecies that Jesus perfectly fulfilled. The ones quoted in Matthew 1:23 come straight out of Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 9:6-7 and Isaiah 8:10 The evidence of Jesus’ Lordship is unquestionable. Still, many question whether Jesus is the One True Messiah. Peter Stoner in “Science Speaks” (Moody Press, 1963) determined that the pro...

Day 6

Obedience to our Lord and His Word is actual evidence of a changed life. As we read Matthew 1:24, we find that when Joseph woke up from sleeping, he immediately obeyed what God told him to do, through the angel. God speaks to us every day of our lives. God speaks through His Holy Spirit in us, and He speaks through His Word. Our obedience to ...

Day 7

Another part of trusting and obeying God was Joseph’s willingness to call Jesus by the name given to him by the angel God sent to Joseph in a dream. Another sign of Joseph trusting God was that Joesph did not have sexual relations with Mary until she gave birth to Jesus. Now, there is nowhere in Scripture that says Joseph must not have sexual...
