Scripture to Read: Hebrews 2:5-8
Today we’re reminded of God’s original plan and His future plan for all His children. God created man, in the beginning, not only to have sweet fellow- ship with Him each day but for man to have dominion over His creation as well. As God leads the writer of Hebrews to write, God reminds us that He did not give dominion to the angels over the inhabited earth in the beginning, nor will the angels have dominion over the world in the future when Christ reigns in the new heav- en and the new earth. Then God leads the writer of Hebrews to quote Psalm 8:4-6 revealing to us both the weakness of man in relation to God, but that God still gave man dominion over His creation. Since God put all things in subjection to man, God left nothing outside of the control of man. The reason we do not see this full control today is because sin has brought fear, death, and destruction to that control. Animals fear man, man fears man, and unity is a hope that will not be fully realized until the new heaven, and the new earth are created. That is why we do not see, at present, all things subjected to man. The Scripture from Psalm 8 is also a reference to Christ and His dominion over all things. The Bible clearly teaches that Jesus is fully God and fully man, so to think of Him any other way is wrong. He is Lord of all, and because we’re His children, we will one day reign with Him.
